5 Must have Indian Apps that can make PM’s vision of “atmanirbhar”


In his last address to the nation in the lieu of Covid-19 Pandemic PM Narendra Modi laid his stress on ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat ‘ ( Self-reliant India ) and ‘Vocal for Local’ where PM urged the nation to focus more on Indian made goods and services and promote #MadeInIndia across streams. 

In line with the PM’s vision, below is the list of 5 must have Apps for every Indian to use and support Country’s national agenda to make this vision; a reality.  

1. Aarogya Setu

Google Play Store rating: 4.5 * 

Launched by the Government of India, Aarogya Setu is a Bluetooth-based COVID-19 tracker. During the ongoing Lockdown this app is proactively reaching out to and informing its users about the risks, best practices and relevant advisories pertaining to the containment of COVID-19. Considering the sharp rise in cases, Aarogya Setu becomes important as it works on the basis of contact tracing and can help a user identify possible coronavirus ‘hotspot’ around his or her area. It can help people stay safe and adopt neccessary precaution in some areas where there are cases and accordingly, help stop or prevent community transmission to an extent.

2. ShareChat

ShareChat is India’s own handcrafted multilingual social network founded by Indians, for Indians that demonstrates Indians’ sensibilities, needs and behavior. With over 60 million monthly active users, ShareChat today stands as India’s largest regional social network which enables users to express their thoughts and opinions, driven by like-minded interests without any social stigma or language as a barrier.  This is massively popular and a must-have app for Indian internet users to engage in their language of choice across genres and categories that truly represent the Indian flavour of the platform.

Despite being a relatively new entrant to the world of online payments, BHIM UPI has proven to be a huge success. The relative ease of use and access has made this app one of the most used app during the lockdown. With safety being of top priority during the lockdown, contact with the outside world is highly avoidable to avoid transmission of the virus. Transmission through cash exchanges too is a concern and contactless payment options like BHIM UPI are highly advised. 

4. JioSaavn

With people home all day due to the covid-19 pandemic, audio streaming platforms witnessed rise in numbers. One big beneficiary in this category is India-based JioSaavn, which claims to be “the largest streaming service for South Asian music and audio entertainment”. JioSaavn offers music, radio, and podcasts for free. One can enjoy the largest catalog of over 55 million songs across Bollywood, English, Hindi, independent artists, and Indian regional languages like Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Bengali, Rajasthani, Bengali, Assamese, Urdu, and Bhojpuri.

5. Inshorts

With people having limited access to newspapers in many parts of the country due to COVID-19 fears, Inshorts is being used by a number of users across India to keep themselves updated of the latest stories. Inshorts is a mobile app that gathers the most significant news of the day from multiple news sites and social media and summarize it in 60-words, with links to read the full story. Usually Inshorts includes news related to business, sports, bollywood and technology. However, these days it is keeping its users updated on latest Covid-19 related information. You can access this app in Hindi and English both.
